Writing papers and grants during the holidays

Should academics routinely write papers and grants during the holidays? It depends on other important considerations in their lives and where they and their families would their lives to head. It is a personal choice constrained by their larger context and maybe it will be dictated by things beyond their control, like the demands of advancing their career. Some academics may actually come to enjoy writing more than activities and that may earn them the wrath of colleagues.
Any advice on whether academics should write has to be qualified by a huge “It depends.”
